My philosophy: Work with integrity. Clearly understand my client’s needs and goals, and strive to meet them. Remember that my artistic endeavors are employed to meet a business need that is key to my client’s project.
DriftAway Studios: A professional-class recording space in Monroe Township, New Jersey, about 50 minutes from mid-town Manhattan and central Philadelphia, and a “stone’s throw” from fabled Princeton. The area is home to many small manufacturers and large distribution centers, yet it still has a semi-rural flavor. It’s home to thriving residential communities. My partner Dee and I (and Barkley the Dog) find it’s a great place to work and live!
Bob Versheck – Story Teller
I have unbounded curiosity. I’m a reader and listener. Spoken words intrigue me whether I’m in front of the speaker or the mic! In a previous life, I might have been the Town Crier…
When other little kids wanted toys, I wanted a tape recorder. For a bit I was a college radio “Jock” and PA announcer in high school. My first real job was installing answering machines… I was the voice on hundreds of them. I’m a collector and fixer of antique radios and phonographs and love to drive (really drive!) fast little roadsters.
I’ve been, and studied, a great many things. I’ve worked in the fields of Supply Chain, Bar Coding, and RFID. I’ve been a Field Engineer and Service Manager; a Pre-sales Technical Consultant, a designer of user interfaces. I’ve been around a lot of IT disciplines. A Realtor. As a salesperson, I’ve done hundreds and hundreds of “front of the room” presentations.
Matters to be felt from the heart are a passion. Philosophy, psychology, sci-fi, things metaphysical… I love learning!
The engineering sciences: Physics, mathematics, electronics, chemistry… them and their big words don’t scare me!
Then there’s my more fun and pun-laden fun side. Doing wacky characters, doing spoken word, a bit of poetry once in a while. Voicing a few sexy whispers… (gulp!) All those little voices in my head are yearning to break free… and tell your story!
All in all, mine is a very varied background. It helps me to voice most anything thrown my way, drawing from a lifetime of experience.
I’m not plain vanilla!
The Gear & Recording Space
Equipment:
- MXL VO 1-a Harlan Hogan Mic
- Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface
- JBL 3 Series Linear Monitors
- Dedicated booth PC, My “fav” DAW is Reaper
- HD 280 Pro “cans”
I love the tech and editing associated with recording.
I designed and built my own professional recording booth. Inner and outer booth walls are lined with acoustically transparent fabric. 2″ Acoustimac Eco Core cellulose batts in the inner wall provide a really “dead” recording environment.
Outside sound penetration is handled by a layer of hardboard and a curtain of dB-3 “mass loaded” vinyl. Ventilation is via a pair of super-low dB equipment cabinet fans with zig-zag baffled input and output ducts.
Giving Back!
I’ve been lucky enough to be granted some talent that enables me to work at something I love. If your non-commercial “helping hand” charity or organization has a need for voice services, but no way to obtain them, please tell me your story. Perhaps I can help.
